Mathias worked through his clever solver with the audience, which was a lot of fun and educational. I downloaded BumbleBee today and kicked off a 1,000 city TSP on my desktop. It's a real tribute to MS' implementation of parallel tasks and Mathias' skill. Even though it's taking nearly 100% CPU on my 2 core desktop, it in no way interferes with everything else I am doing on my machine.

Nice to see an end-to-end example of a real F# solution.

Mathias made it F#UN! He was all a buzzzz about F#. Sweet experience! And the group had good spirit and collaborated well. I hope Mathias will present again. Thanks

Darren Platt’s well-organized lecture was a great introduction to F# for those familiar with Python, and provided a peek into the Python world for those familiar with F#. He hit all the high points of functional programming with F#, provided links to lots of good resources for getting started in F# (I can vouch for http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/F_Sharp_Programming being a great place to start), and walked through some very interesting code examples to whet the appetite of newbies. He only covered a fraction of his longer introductory presentation, and it was enlightening even for those a little more familiar with F#. He stuck around after the presentation for some interesting conversations with the audience. I can honestly say after this meet-up I can better articulate in my own mind what makes functional programming special.

Great presenter, great audience, great topic! Good F# examples and interesting to hear how a Python developer views the F# stack.

For me it was a great introduction to F# and how it might be used in bioinformatics.

Joe Hummel's presentation was very well put together, informative, well-organized, and oriented toward practical programming. And the food provided by Microsoft was great!

Dr. Joe Hummel did a great job presenting Multicore Programming using .NET 4.0. It was very informative. He explained current industry trends. Dr. Joe's presntation and demos showed us how easy it is to apply the technology to speed up our applications, code better and be more productive. And, I no longer need to mess with threading!

Dr. Joe really knows his stuff AND presents it with energy, good humor, and engaging diologue. If you have a chance to attend any of Dr. Joe's critically topical events, do yourself a favor... just do it!

The focus on tech. specifics is refreshing (compared with the thinly-veiled tech. product promotion that seems to be taking over so many other dev. "community" events). Great info. on newly-published books and community resources. Great to have several participants with extensive experience actually applying the technology in the real world. Definitely looking forward to future meetings.
